Hear the BEEP where you SLEEP!

Rockledge Fire Division

Did you know? Half of home fire deaths occur between 11pm and 7am, when most people are asleep. Here are some helpful tips for the Public Safety Department/Fire Division:

  • For the best protection, install interconnected smoke alarms in your home. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Test alarms at least once per month by pushing the test button.
  • If alarms don't sound when tested, or they are more than 10 years old, replace them.
  • Smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside of each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home.
  • Children and older adults may need help waking up. Ensure that someone will wake them if the smoke alarm sounds.
  • If the smoke alarm sounds, immediately go outside and stay there. Have a designated meeting place, and call the fire department from a cellphone or neighbor's phone. Don't go back inside until you are told that it is safe to do so.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact the Rockledge Department of Public Safety/Fire Division at (321) 221-7540.
