[ARCHIVED] Rockledge Welcomes New Fire Engine 37 with "Pushing" Ceremony!

On Saturday, August 11, 9:30 a.m., the public is cordially invited to attend a “Pushing” Ceremony for the Department of Public Safety/Fire Division's new Fire Engine 37! The ceremony will take place at Fire Station No. 37 (Fire Station No. 3), 3500 Murrell Road.

This is a very special and time-honored tradition, which dates back to the era when fire pumpers were horse-driven and powered by hand. Following a fire, the horses would be separated from the pumper cart and both horse and pumper would be washed by the firefighters. The pumper would then be literally pushed into the station. In today’s times, a recreation of this event signifies placing a new engine into service.

We hope your schedule permits you to attend!
