Hurricane Preparedness Tip #5: Clean Out the Garage Now

Now’s the Time to Clear Out the Garage! 

Take this opportunity to clean out your garage and make sure you have clear access to your storm shutters or plywood. Don’t wait until a storm is on the horizon—it's important to dispose of large or bulky items now. The City suspends special pickups when a storm is approaching, which means items left at the curb may not be collected in time and could become dangerous projectiles during severe weather.

Take a moment now to identify any loose items in your yard or patio. When a storm is approaching and you're busy securing furniture, potted plants, and other outdoor belongings, that’s not the ideal time to decide to discard them. City crews are unlikely to be able to collect these items before the storm. Instead, please bring them inside and keep them secured until the storm has passed.
